A police officer mistakenly shot and killed a security guard in a bar in Chicago’s south suburbs early Sunday afternoon, Chicago’s Fox 32 reported.

Witnesses said a security guard told that a bunch of”drunk guys” to depart a Robbins pub around 4 a.m. An armed suspect afterwards came back within the pub and started fire, WGN-TV reported, citing witnesses.

Armed security guards returned fire, ” the report stated. One of the guards — Jemel Roberson, 26 — apprehended the defendant outside, witnesses said. Roberson then asked help from Midlothian Police, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said.

A witness told the channel that Roberson was holding the defendant on the floor when one of 2 responding officers fatally shot him.

“The safety guard that got murdered, he captured somebody and had his knee the entire time,” said one witness mentioned by Fox 32. “Only waiting on the authorities to get there. I guess if the authorities got there, they likely believed that he had been among those bad men, cause he had his gun to the man and he took him.”

Four other people, including the shot, endured non-life threatening injuries, WGN-TV reported. Midlothian police verified that one of its two responding officers opened fire. The officer’s identity wasn’t released.

Roberson was allegedly a church organist who had been training to be a police officer.

“He was preparing to train and perform all that stuff, hence the people he wished to become household with took his lifetime,” explained Pastor Patricia Hill of Purposed Church.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is exploring the initial shooting, although the State Police Public Integrity Task Force is exploring the police shooting.

Robbins is a sparsely-populated village roughly a 30-minute driveway south of Chicago.

The shooting happened with an additional violent weekend in Chicago with 20 shot including 3 fatally, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The deaths started early Saturday when a 29-year-old guy was shot in a restaurant at town’s Far South Side, ” the report stated.

On Saturday evening, a 42-year-old guy died inside his South Green Street flat when a person took a gun out and shot him through a stunt game, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A 24-year-old guy on Sunday evening has been captured by an unidentified gunman multiple occasions in the chest and stomach, the report stated.

Authorities said at least 17 other people are injured from gun violence because Friday evening.
