A 27-year-old woman living in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, in the Laurentians, appeared Thursday at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse in connection with the triple murder of her own newborns. The accused can not be identified because she is the mother of a fourth child still alive. He is 3 years old.

The hearing was brief – a few minutes at most, during which the accused remained silent.

Six counts were filed against her:

  • First degree murder (committed October 10 or 11, 2017);
  • First degree murder (committed between December 3, 2014 and February 2017);
  • First-degree murder (committed between December3, 2014 and February 2017);

  • Failing to provide the things necessary for the existence of a child;
  • Child’s Corruption (participated in adultery or sexual immorality or habitual drunkenness or any other form of vice and endangered the mores of the child or rendered the home unsuitable for presence of the child).

According to Sgt. Marc Tessier, of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the woman arrived at the hospital on October 15, following which the staff contacted the police officers, given the nebulous circumstances of her condition.

This information led the Crime Investigation Service to search his residence in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac the following day. The police discovered the bodies of three newborns who came from different pregnancies.

According to the analyzes carried out, these were not miscarriages or pregnancies that went wrong.

After investigation, it was decided to arrest the woman on Wednesday in Trois-Rivières.

She will be back in court on December 7 for her bail hearing. She will be detained until then.

Expertise is continuing. The charges could therefore be changed in the future.
